We've reached the point now where turning things around will require sacrifices the majority of us are not willing to make.Earth produces its own gases and fluids, such as water and oil, from its internal chemical factory. If we ever get to a planet or moon that has similar internal processes such as the Earth has we will also discover oil and natural gas on it.
I think about all the oil we have at the north pole and wonder where it came from. If oil is fossil fuel and fossils are things that used to be alive, then at some time in history the north pole must have been teaming with life. . We live in a tiny sliver of time and space where the Earth supports carbon based life. We will come to the end of that sliver and we are trying our best to hasten that end. Then the Earth will keep orbiting the sun, just as oblivious to our absence as it is to our presence.
