I don't know if it's convenient (except that no going to church is convenient), but atheism isn't a religion. It is a point of view on a single issue: is there a god or gods.

Nope, there are atheists who reject the big bang and believe in unicorns (not many I hope). Beliefs concerning matters beyond is there a god, are matters beyond the definition of atheism.

But not a belief held by all atheists.

Yes, my new religion does not define what it believes as true but clearly defines what it believes to be false. This still qualifies as a belief system and a religion.
Sounds more like a philosophy than a religion.

Most atheists admit the possibility of an eternal god, they just don't believe in one because there's no evidence of such a being.

Wait a minute now you have us believing in an eternal universe and a universe started with the big bang. Besides that neither is required to be an atheist, it's kinda hard to believe in both those things at once.

I do talk negatively about religious beliefs. I don't believe they are true. I enjoy conversations with those similarly free of religious beliefs.

I think that that's readily apparent to anyone reading your screed.

If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
