Since I've only ever published technical and non fiction literature I don't feel entitled to give out advice for aspiring writers. But how about that: obtain Frey's "How to write a damn good novel" 1+2 and read them. It's entertaining most of the time and self conscious enough that he points out the limitations and problems with his advice. Other than that: write, write, write. What do you want to write?
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
