Sure, seeing if certain thoughts correlate with certain brain signals is something that could be tested. How would you identify an optimistic thought, for example? Would you ask someone to think optimistically? Or would you identify responses in the brain that correspond to optimistic thought?
It seems likely that optimistic thoughts would make you feel good, and probably vice versa.
I think it's fair to say that ultimately we are motivated by what feels good to us, but I'm still unclear on why this is a problem. We are organic computers ultimately, so it would seem. That's just the reality of the situation.
