During my internship I took a few shifts riding the ambulances. One night we were called to a party where a young guy had collapsed.
The party got wild and the cops were called. We took care of the guy, cleaned him up and got him into the ambulance.
I was just about to climb in and close the door when a bottle smashed against the ambo near my head.
Needless to say I was pissed. I turned and saw some piece of shit glaring at me and giving me the finger. I put down the kit and started walking towards him when I felt a hand on my arm.
It was a cop who said, "No, let me deal with him"
That cooled me down and I had the satisfaction of seeing the arsehole manhandled roughly into a copcar.
We were there to help and you feel the need to attack an ambulance crew, you fucking prick??
I know lots of people hate cops, but I don't understand people who resent paramedics, firefighters, etc.
I have a friend in France and he tells me about how in some of the Banlieue (suburbs) of Paris,
firefighters responding to a call routinely have rocks thrown at them while they're trying to do their job.
It happens so regularly the firefighters expect it.
I said "I'd like to see them try that trick in New York."
