Moffat was the show runner for Smith's tenure, whereas RTD was Tennant's.
In terms of dialogue it's supposed to be a way for Doctor Who to learn about new places, experiences, life forms. There's nothing he learns in this episode.
If you're going to have the daleks, which we are never going to learn anything new about, then there should be another people or race that we do learn about in the episode. Think back to Daleks take Manhattan for example.
And I really hated the way they set up the young-Davros encounter with Doctor Who - if you're going to make reference to previous encounters it should be encounters we have already seen - or at least have already happened, not one that happens immediately before the present encounter!!
Do you know that since they've brought the series back not one companion has died? Amy and Rory got imprisoned in a factor-farm for the Angles, but no one has died. And he hasn't had one non-Earth companion yet. The fourth doctor had Leela and then Romana, and later Adric and Nyssa - four non-earthling companions.
Thank Christ there was no sign of the New-Paradigm daleks this time. Although the inclusion of the earlier versions contradicts what we've been told about how the daleks have survived - now apparently they have always survived in multiple forms, and they're no longer fighting each other.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK
"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
