The idea of a heron addict being mentally tough enough to deal with the walking dead stretches credulity too far. One impossibility is the most any show can hope to get it's viewers to support in their suspension of disbelief.
What I find interesting (or potentially interesting) about FTWD is the potential culture-differences between East Coast and West Coast, and also the opportunity for the exploration of the American West in a zombie-apocalypse. I see a lot of potential for FTWD to turn into a kind of new-fangled cowboy show, which could be cool, or it could be really stupid.
If junkie boy gets eaten early I may give the second season a go. The show's got stuff that could work out to be interesting, but not with junkie boy as a main character.
Maybe they can kill him off by having him try to go back to raid his dealer's stash.
