I only tuned in to watch the episode with Maisie Williams since I love her. I lost interest last season, and I enjoy Peter Capaldi as The Doctor. I just didn't feel compelled to keep up with it anymore. Even with the offer of Williams I kept forgetting that it airs on Saturday. I found the second part of that episode rather lackluster despite enjoying both actors. Honestly enjoyed the first part a lot more. It felt like it didn't need to be a two parter.
I think ever since the end of Season 6 the quality of the writing just kept going down and down. I liked Season 7 okay, but after 5 and 6 it just felt so linear. Those seasons were larger than life in so many ways and kept me invested from beginning to end. Now it doesn't pull me in like it used to. It's like Moffat threw everything he had in those first couple of seasons and then ran out of ideas. Though I think continued confusion from fans forced him to tone down his content and it really shows.
