Jesus said that if people don't follow him that he will throw their butts into the fire.

If it's the "eternal torture" kind of hell, that's indeed worse. If it's the "destruction and cessation of existence" kind of hell, it would be preferable to heaven. It kind of depends on what someone believes hell is.
