In regard to sin and forgiveness Christian teachings, I was under the impression that one had to seek forgiveness or attempt reparation (where possible) of a person wronged prior to asking God's forgiveness; or even prior to approaching God.
If one were to murder someone, then reparation and forgiveness is not possible because the person wronged can not be reconciled with.
Which brings to my mind that Jesus offering forgiveness to others was such that he could be forgiven before God. (which also hints at his imperfection that is not mentioned in scripture) The fact that this was turned into a general forgiveness for mankind's wrongdoings to each other just by asking and regretting philosophy is a most puzzling development to me.
I find that, if I think to much on these things, they become too convoluted and begin to fall apart.
