I agree that it is NOT the best way for humans to get along. But there is no such thing as a utopia and not even atheists should be seeking that. If you want to stop religion from all the horrible crap it does, dreaming of your own utopia is not a good tactic.
In reality we don't live in a perfect world. Religion unfortunately can only be put on a leash. I really don't see it going away completely. I think the best humans can do is insist on common law. Our species ability to be cruel or compassionate is in our evolution. Not even the word "atheist" will automatically make a human only be kind.
Re read my OP. Not even atheist agree on all issues all the time. I know atheists who worship guns on par with right wing nutters. I know other atheists who who buy into si fi woo. I know other atheists who buy conspiracies such as JFK and 9/11.
There is no such thing as a perfect world, not even for atheists.
