Indeed...
Nathan Bedford Forrest was the first Grand Wizard of the KKK and was the Tennessee delegate of the DNC. Change is the only constant.
Republicans today are just a complete disgrace to the party name.
They should stop calling themselves the party of "Lincoln."

Bear in mind, something like this from a current politician might seem like classic phony virtue signalling and a thinly-veiled attempt at looking less racist, but in 1875, the former Confederates fucking hated his congenial attitude towards the black community, with one editorial saying "We have infinitely more respect for Longstreet, who fraternizes with negro men on public occasions, with the pay for the treason to his race in his pocket, than with Forrest and Pillow, who equalize with the negro women, with only 'futures' in payment."

Just found out I forgot to post the actual link to the speech where Nathan Bedford Forrest ended up becoming more progressive than many of his contemporaries:
http://tennessee-scv.org/ForrestHistSoci...peech.html The intro may be playing up the "not racist" card a bit, but the fact remains that there's a vast difference between the Nathan Bedford Forrest of 1866 who became an early adopter of the KKK and the Nathan Bedford Forrest of 1875 who ended up giving this speech, alienating most of his former allies in the process.

His idea of the Klan varied from most of the other founders by a good bit, IIRC.
