Questions:
In Device Manager is the network card configured/enabled (check in Network properties too).
Are you using configured network addresses or DHCP?
Testing an IP configureation:
1. from a command prompt on your daughter's PC type:
PING 127.0.0.1 ... if this works I would assume your network "stack" to be configured properly
2. from a command prompt on your daughter's PC type:
Type "IPCONFIG /ALL" ... if you gate an IP starting 169 back it means you have an auto-configuration address (it's not picking up a DHCP supplied address, presumably form your router).
3. if the IP addrtess is in line with what you expect, from a command prompt on your daughter's PC type:
PING IP Address.
If that responds OK and you can ping the gateway (that will also be on that IPCONGIG info) then in principle your networking should be working.
