First, animal rights.
I love animals. Yes, all animals. I think creatures are neat. However, I don't think much about their rights, except in a few select instances. I'm not really sure they have a "right" to anything. Nonetheless, I would like to see wild animals given their place in this world and I would like to see pets kept healthy and happy. As for animals raised for food. Raise them like they are pets and kill them quick.
Second, veganism.
I could never be vegan. I have nothing against it, but don't try to guilt me or I will chew my burger with my mouth open in your face.
Third, PETA
I fucking hate PETA. They are the worst animal activists of all time. If you want to make a point, don't hire 50 idiots with one brain cell combined to do it. (They can keep making naked people ads, though. I am cool with that.)
My feelings on eating meat are pretty much summed up by the fact that have cut up just about every kind of animal meat you can find in a restaurant. I have cut up pig's heads to be served in various ways. I have eaten just about every type of food I have cooked and I have never lost sleep over it. It's also very hard to cook for vegetarians. Everything that tastes good has at least meat stock in it.
I think animals can express pain and irritation. We just have to pay attention. Sure, they don't speak English, but I am pretty sure many of us have seen animals in pain and can recognize it for what it is.
I had a snake (Memnoch) that got very sick in the last few months of her life. During that time, she would stick her head under the water in the water dish in her tank and stay there. It freaked me out. She also made this weird high-pitched noise that was like a very low whistle (while her head was not under water). One day, I came home from work and she was hanging from her little tree with her head in the water dish . . . dead. I don't know for sure, but I think Memnoch drowned herself. I know it sounds weird, but there you have it. Long story short, I could tell she was in pain.
