Studies have shown that actually the opposite is true. The more heterosexual a man is, the less homophobic.
By "more heterosexual", I mean that sexuality exists on a continuum. The lines between straight, bi and gay are actually not as distinct as we commonly think. The Kinsey study in particular theorized a 0-5 scale, with 5 being almost purely gay and 0 being almost purely straight.
Another study featured men who were broken into two groups, one that was comfortable around openly gay men and one that was homophobic. They then showed these men lesbian porn to establish that they found women attractive. They then showed these men gay porn. The men who were turned on to the lesbian porn but not the gay porn were the ones who were comfortable being around gay men. The men who were turned on to both were the homophobic men. The conclusion was that homophobic men were more likely to be repressed bisexuals.
