Because whenever I engaged in the ritual (remember, I grew up in a barely practicing Catholic household) it all tasted like a crappy stale wafer and wine, and I didn't feel blessed or energized or content afterward. Then again, I was one of those kids who just kind of went through the motions because it's what my elders expected of me and I didn't want to get into trouble. I never actually believed, even back then.
So, what do the faithful experience when they do it?
No, it still looks/feels/tastes like bread and wine.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
