Let's face it, if God doesn't have the time or inclination to listen to the freaking Pope's prayers, why would anyone else expect a look in?
You know... Whether or not such a crazy character such as Yahweh exists is a matter of fact, it exists or it does not. If someone thinks it exists, however misguided, to them that is how it is; fair enough. It's choosing to then worship the piece of shit that I can't understand. They are the ones trying to convince us that he really did all the horrific stuff in the books.
If I believed it was real, I'd be totally enraged at it, and wanting answers as to why it was such an evil prick. My "prayers" would sound very different to the norm.
Here's the rub: The pope isn't special. If there is a god, the pope isn't anymore important than the average person who prays for the things. God isn't looking at the world and saying, " Since you're The pope, I'm going to answer your specific prayers." Shit. God has yet to show mercy to those who are hungry or disease ridden so what the fuck makes the prayers of one man called the pope any more significant?
At the end of the day, god doesn't do any of the shit he should be doing for a planet inhabited by people he supposedly put here to begin with. He ignores the cries of "his people" and he's wasted time doing absolutely nothing. Why people think he exists when there is so much suffering in the world that could be relieved, is a complete mystery. He's not real. I am amazed at the number of people who lack the common sense to see that.
The worst part is that they rightfully point to dead gods and dead religions and the currently held religions and god claims and stupidly think they are different.
A simple choice should point logical thinkers in the right direction.
1. A God/deity/invisible entity/ supernatural cognition does exist
Or.
2. Humans have always made them up and none of them were ever real.
It is funny that most humans use good logic in rejecting the claims of others but challenge their claims suddenly it is hands off.
And even outside the issue of religion most humans don't have faith. Most sane people would quit their jobs if on payday after payday after payday said "Just have faith that invisible check is there and the fictional money is in your fictional bank account".
But it is worse than that, they have the hope for a cosmic payday believing that this crappy home we live on we should be thankful for. Well when I say crappy, I don't mean all of life is bad, just that not all of it is good.
We live on a planet, that has had disasters long before humans existed. Bacteria and earthquakes and volcanos and wild fires also existed long before humans did. 5 mass extinctions in 4 billion years. But if you ask the believer their sky daddy is a great parent. But no sane parent I can think of would put their kids in a house full of broken glass, cockroaches, child molesters, allow the kid to murder their other kids. If human parents behaved in the same selective deadbeat manor their claimed God does, the parent would be arrested.
Not only is there no evidence for an all powerful super natural cognition, the concept as a claim is immoral once you claim the "all powerful" part.
