My first thought was that it would be nice if people didn't have to be prompted to do positive things or demonstrate kindness...the cynic in me says that people are either inclined towards these things, or not.
But, generous people inevitably become distracted with the business of living at times and may appreciate being reminded; perhaps they want to do more, and benefit from designated days in which to focus their efforts.
