Fun fact, you can multiply by nine using your fingers as a sort of mechanical calculator. Follow me.
Hold your hands out fingers spread. From left to right - pinky to pinky, they are one through ten, respectively. Whatever number you would multiply by nine is represented by folding that finger down. So, 9X5 would be the thumb of your left hand down. There are 4 digits extended to the left of that thumb.....and five to the right. Forty-five. Try this with each finger.
It's almost as if our hands were designed to multiply by nine...Magic!
