I am watching this award show on tv right now, have no idea what award show it is, but there is this young guy singing about pain and loss, but he's smiling while he sings. He is not making me believe that he is feeling what he is singing.
I had a theory about this.
I think it was easier to be cool and mysterious in the days when rock stars were a blurry image on a screen and their lives weren't so transparent.
These days rock stars are on HD television, they're put on reality TV shows, plus pain and loss has been over marketed and is therefore now mocked since everyone stopped listening to emo music.
Or maybe you're just getting old and bitter and I'm agreeing with you about this topic because I'm old and bitter and the new music sounds like shit to me compared to the old stuff.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
