Don't you think for Shia Muslim believers it has to be some of kind of sign, the Nabi had kids with Khadija, that aside from her was only some baby boys who died in infancy, and the only daughter of his to pass on offspring or outlive him, was Fatima? This is despite him having many wives. That none of them had children that lasted. That God made sure there weren't other offspring.
I'm not saying this is the reason, but, when we see the concept of chosen family in Quran, and chosen offspring, and divine authority being emphasized to be in chosen offspring, and then we read about the holy exalted position of the family in Mohammad, it's in contrast to the wives of the Prophet? Declares that Mohammad is not the father of any of your men, but, that rang true even after the verse. That he had no kids who grew up to be men despite how many wives he had.
To me, it's surely a sign, that Fatima and her offspring, God made sure no other offspring would compete, and believe if there was a son of a the Prophet, there would be a whole movement around his offspring and people would emphasize that offspring is passed on by the man side (which is the case in Islam).
Yet that didn't happen. The offspring of the Fatima where considered the offspring of Mohammad. Thus God honored Ali through that as well.
So many wives, yet only descendants connected to him is through Fatima who was married to Ali.
To me it's a sign, that God wanted something special in the offspring of Fatima and Ali, like he wanted something special in the offspring of Ibrahim.
You know who Muslims have to bless in their Salah everyday? Even Sunnis do this. The family of Mohammad.
Something to think about.
It mind boggles me when I think about it personally.
