Really? When was the last time our private citizens fought a war or repelled an invading army?
Any strength remaining in this country is because of the principles on which it was founded (which are, quite honestly, better exemplified in some of those "nosy" countries you're deriding), not because our populous is armed. Sadly, that strength you're touting is being gradually whittled away by a government that cares nothing for what the founders envisioned and pays only lip service to the people they are supposed to serve, whether we have guns or not.
BTW - Our government meddles in the affairs of sovereign nations all over the world, every fucking day. That gives their citizens more than enough right to weigh in with opinions on shit that happens here.
