My husband is gone a lot, working 12 hour days and sometimes gone all weekend. And this is the "easy" pilot schedule because he's an instructor. Once he's done with his instructor tour, and goes off to do the real thing, he'll be working 12 hours days AND be going on deployments to the other side of the world for months at a time. But this does not mean his job will be more important to him than his wife and kids. Having a job that keeps you busy or away from home does not mean it is more important to you than your family.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
