Oh, they just irritate me to no end. (Although I didn't know that many sports figures are thinking of lost family members - - there needs to be a way to distinguish between the two, in my humble opinion.)
The religious ones are just reveling in the idea that THEY are special, and that god actually cares when they get a touchdown, or a home run, or a goal. If they win, then god was on their side. First: the utter arrogance and hubris is beyond comprehension. God is with THEIR team, not the other team, and the one making the score is doubly special - - a hero to a god-blessed small sweaty group of guys throwing or kicking a ball around. And if god helps one team win, then the other team is being punished for . . . what? not praying hard enough? Too bad for those guys.

And then there is the second absolutely horrifying thought that people could actually believe that god cares about the outcome of their silly little game, but doesn't care about starving children - abused children - raped children - homeless children - sex slaves - - - all of the people who are crying out to god for help, but NO . . . he's hanging out at football games and helping my friends find their car keys. Right. Sure. They don't care about people who are suffering, they only want to feel that they're SPECIAL.
