Does this misguided self-indulgence, disguised as some kind of humility, infuriate anyone else?
How unaware of the horrors of the world do you have to be, to think that 'God' has your back, whilst others are born only to suffer? It's ridiculous on so many levels.

F*ck sports people. I don't give two sh*ts about what they point at and I don't see why anybody pays attention to them in the first place. How has humanity EVER benefited from some moron kicking a ball, or running 100m 0.1s faster than other guys? How is that even entertaining, let alone important?
I say - bring back Roman circus and have the over-paid rapists on steroids fight it out to the death. And feed Katy Perry, or Beyonce to lions at "half-time". And then - they can thank gods all they want - they will have earned it...

I agree with some of the things being said here. I don't think God "helps" people win a silly sports game. I don't think God cares at all about sports, actually.
But it doesn't offend me or upset me either, when people do that. I don't think it's a purposeful gloat or a deliberate pride thing on their part. It's just that to them, the game is extremely important, so they forget to put things into perspective as far as the grand scheme of things go. But we all do that.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Oh, they just irritate me to no end. (Although I didn't know that many sports figures are thinking of lost family members - - there needs to be a way to distinguish between the two, in my humble opinion.)
The religious ones are just reveling in the idea that THEY are special, and that god actually cares when they get a touchdown, or a home run, or a goal. If they win, then god was on their side. First: the utter arrogance and hubris is beyond comprehension. God is with THEIR team, not the other team, and the one making the score is doubly special - - a hero to a god-blessed small sweaty group of guys throwing or kicking a ball around. And if god helps one team win, then the other team is being punished for . . . what? not praying hard enough? Too bad for those guys.
And then there is the second absolutely horrifying thought that people could actually believe that god cares about the outcome of their silly little game, but doesn't care about starving children - abused children - raped children - homeless children - sex slaves - - - all of the people who are crying out to god for help, but NO . . . he's hanging out at football games and helping my friends find their car keys. Right. Sure. They don't care about people who are suffering, they only want to feel that they're SPECIAL.

I don't think they actually think that way at all.
I think it's just that they don't really think about it at the moment.
Like I said, it's easy to become wrapped up in our own lives and make a big deal out of things that are very important to us but don't matter at all in the grand scheme of things, and certainly aren't as important as starving children in Africa or whatever. We're all guilty of this at times.

Importance is in the eye of the beholder.
Sports have a place. When taught and executed well, they teach people about trust, teamwork, discipline, how to deal with both success and failure, and all while giving someone a tangible goal to reach for. There's a reason why one of the most common approaches to getting at-risk kids off the streets is to put them in sports. Plus, they're fun and get people off their fat asses. Not everything needs to be of dire importance to have value.
Moreover, as someone who literally cannot do anything athletes do, I personally marvel at the strength, flexibility, and stamina of human bodies at their peak. It's entertaining for me to see it.
Now, I don't think that professional athletes should make $Texas. That's dumb, and merely highlights how messed up our societal priorities are. But to dismiss it entirely because you don't like it is equally as dumb. Sports aren't inherently bad, even if you don't understand their appeal.

Yeah, if you really think about it, it does seem dumb that God would assist someone in scoring the game-ending field goal while neglecting the lives of others entirely. But I don't expect people to think that holistically at all times.
This reminds me of that terrible argument against complaining: "Well, other people have it worse." Yeah. Great. What's your point? I should be grateful because other people have it even worse than me? Where does that end? Should a starving child be grateful because he could be dying of Ebola instead? I know it's not exactly the same as the topic at hand, but I just wanted to bring it up.

What's so hard to understand about the fact that God is a sports fan? Jesus Christ you are dense.
