People are teaching that everyone at the time of Christopher Columbus thought the Earth was flat, but he knew better. Unfortunately, this is not true in any way. In reality, everyone knew the Earth was round, but everyone also knew the Earth was big. Columbus thought the Earth was much smaller (and ironically, he was wrong) so he set out on his journey and luckily landed in the Americas, instead of starving to death like everyone knew he would if there was no Americas.
I thought it would be common knowledge that Pythagoras was the first one discovered the earth was round.
Even then during the time the Greeks were in power it was common knowledge the earth wasn't flat. So Columbus
trying to prove the earth is wrong was two thousand years to late to the party if anything he underestimated how large
the earths circumference is.
