It was all I knew. We human beings can make meaning and community out of just about anything - - great for survival of the species, not so great for rational and optimal thinking. My conversion was a LOOOONG process, which made it more bearable, I think. Slow questioning. But I have described it to a few folks as feeling like I deliberately set fire to my house, and then stood around saying "now what?".
