Your claim is that Jesus led us to a better, clearer understand of God. My question is: Why couldn't God have made himself understood right from the beginning? Surely a Being with the ability to create the Universe in a trice could have implanted into the minds of his favoured creations, 'Slavery is wrong.' Why didn't he?

I don't know why. For whatever reason, He thought 2000 years ago was the right time to make Himself man and point us to the right direction. I'm ok with not knowing all of God's motives.
Well what if you meet god and discover he is pro slavery? Maybe we where on the right path with slavery and messed it up?
