Look up the Roman Catholic set of dogmas and believes. It's not comparable to what evangelists believe, who, often, take the bible literally.
I don't subscribe to it and I find it contradictory, but it opens various escape routes for everyone not wanting to subscribe to the letter of the bible. CL repeatedly said to take the OT as being an allegory. I replied with not having that luxury some 40 years ago when growing up a catholic. But cahtolics have now and that's what CL obviously supports.
