For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Therefore anyone who sets aside one of the least of these commands and teaches others accordingly will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 5:17-20And what were the final words of Christ on the cross????
Two different religions, aye, but Jesus says to continue following the old laws. Leviticus is part of the Law, no?
Something about It was finished or 'accomplished?'
(John 19 if your interested.)
what else you got? Cause it seems to me because their is a stark contrast between the life and rules of OT Judaism and NT Christianity would indicate an undeniable paradigm shift in the Rules and law. the primary being the acceptance of Gentiles. Where as OT law said one could only be born into favor with God.
If you truly believe Mat 5 applies now, how do you account for this paradigm shift in the law?
Can't help but notice that heaven and earth did not disappear after he died on the cross though.
What do you mean when you ask how I account for the shift? It makes perfect sense to me. Judaism was too literal to be a widely believed religion. It involved direct encounters with God, a God that is big on punishment and suffering, and the idea that one has to be part of a Chosen People in order to have a relationship with God. It is difficult for a religion like this to spread. But Christianity? Much more spiritual...now anyone can be with God! Your lineage doesn't matter but rather your faith! God is kind and forgiving! Much more marketable. Besides, it only makes sense that the writers include that, since disregarding the Old Testament entirely would've caused an even bigger ruckus
