Or just to mindlessly obey - I mean, is the "wrong" done here because they disobeyed, or because they gained the knowledge of good and evil) and then banished them from the garden, before they could eat from the tree of life (that would give them eternal life) - after playing a game of hide and seek. And its never explained why that tree was there in the first place or what was the deal with the talking snake(most Christians would say it was Satan but it was never explicitly stated as such).
We know scientifically it is a bullshit story alone. Human don't magically pop out of dirt, women don't magically pop out of a man's rib, and the earth is 4 billion years old and was not created in 6 days.
But morally it is a vile story on top of that. You have two innocent victims thrust into a situation without their consent and as you said, expected to blindly obey. But the "fall" was the result of a rigged bet between God and Lucifer, which put's Adam and Eve as poker chips and again, without their consent or any knowledge as to what their roll was in any of it.
But again, this motif style of writing was common in all of antiquity. Back then society lived under feudal kingships and the prior polytheism that lead to the monotheism of Abraham, reflected the expectation that the layperson support the warrior and ruling class, and those on top expected the population to tow the tribal line. And in a very evolutionary reality, it was because life was harsher and tribalism was extremely pronounced even locally and the mortality rate was much higher. So loyalty back then was much more important.
The reality is that humans make up these stories as as gap filling when really what they are in reality are the comic book excuses humans make to justify social pecking orders. There is a reason "Lord" "Master" and "Kingdom of God" are written like that, because it reflects the times they lived in.
