Everyone having the remotest interest in psychology and it's findings already knew that. I wouldn't expect OP to fall into that category, but there's a reason why they penalized beatings by teachers as early as the 60ies in most countries and moved on to call it abuse when parents are doing it also. And that reason isn't pulled from some collective ass but psychology delivering the data.
It's also that forensic psychology and profiling found out that not everyone having been abused moves on to be a serial offender, but every serial offender had been abused as a child. Physically and/or sexually.
