If he wants to open his mind and reconsider his thinking, awesome. If not, maybe someone else will take something away from the discussion.
This is exactly why I engage the close-minded -- not to change their mind, but to convince the audience.
I read a stat one time that asserted 95% of all forum members never post, but often only read.
If there is no opposing view to any particular argument, that audience doesn't get the benefit of both sides. I don't play Devil's Advocate with it -- I onlt defend views I sincerely hold -- but I reckon that those are the views I can most eloquently defend. And when the defense is rock-solid, as is the case here, I revert to pointed mockery, as I've done here, in order to hammer home points already made.
I hope Pool keeps coming back. I also think he should change his name to Piñata the Great, because he provides a perfect sounding board to spread the message of equality.
He and his sort are losing the battle in history. The story of progress in the last few centuries has been one of expanded equality between races, the genders, orientations, and the like. His putting up a battle allows those of us who march for equality to hoist our flag once more, and as you alluded to, win even more followers.
