You can still legally own a gun here.
However, I have never met anyone that would want too and nobody has the need to because nobody else is armed. Granted there are shootings here from time to time, however nowhere near the amounts you get in a country like the U.S. where guns are common place.
I'm all for fighting a "nanny state", however, I don't see blocking the right to own something that can easily kill as many people as you have bullets as a nanny state move.
