I personally choose to be independent/self-reliant, and don't wish to be "taken care of" because I've never, ever been comfortable with the idea of being beholden to anyone. There's also the matter of being aware of the fact that people are fickle, and knowing that life can and often does change on dime. I would advise any person to strive to be as independent as possible...It's a good thing.

Now, please...Do try to curb any urge to punch me in the face.
