Their sizes are just easier to mold. For a few years, a local boutique would call me when they got new shipments and give me some free clothes plus 30% off for coming in and trying everything on so that the staff could figure out what looked good on whom. Apparently, it's easier to generically dress a thin person who doesn't have much in the way of curves because it's easier to pin fabric than to add it, and add body lumps rather than get rid of them. They'd stick me in a dress, pin it up where necessary, then stuff it where necessary. It was fun being a dress-up doll three or four times a year, and the discount didn't hurt
