Well... here is a subject that suddenly got people talking...
As for me, I've been to the zoo a bunch of times with my kids and I know how to keep them away from any danger that they may do to themselves... stupid kids will be stupid!
That said, it's a matter of time until something like this happens in a place that is open to the public, so... better safety measures should be in place to account for stupid kids. Sure, those may detract from enjoying the wildlife... but it's better than what happened here.
Concerning the poor animal... well.... I don't know... If it was my kid, I'd be glad they shot him, of course. Since it wasn't my kid, I get emotional distance and see one less individual of a threatened species, for the sake of a stoopid hooman... not sure the trade-off was a positive one.
Ok, tranquilizers were off the menu, but.... how about gorilla grade tasers?! There seem to be bear-grade ones...

Are zoos that under-equipped that their only options are tranquilizers and wait an hour, or kill?
