I wouldn't call what you said "you must be Irish" as racist, but it was certainly discrimination based on nationality, which may not sound as punchy but which is as equally repugnant.

Rather than you calling Jörmungandr stupid you said "you must be Irish" an old steryotype of the Irish as being stupid ....

So is Garrison Keiller a bigot?  I have no idea who that is, but if she/he used the term Irish as an insult to say someone was stupid yes ... Some lazy people use nationality to emphasize the stupidity in a group for emphasis .... you have gone one step further and used the citizens of a nation to describe someone as stupid .... and I can assure you my daughters are not stupid you ignorant bastard ... and look I don't need to insult a whole nation to insult you

Let me clear something up here, I say things in the heat of an argument that are just plain wrong, but when that is pointed out I apologize .... That is my morals without the need for a God.

I have just pointed out to CL that his insult to the Irish was wrong and even added that I took it as a personal insult to my Irish children .... His morals with a God was to hide behind other people rather than apologize.

I am sure he will turn the discussion away from his shortfalls as he always does
