The negotiations will take at least two years and if this buyer's remorse takes hold one can easily see this becoming an election issue.

The two years period isn't established as of yet. There is no precedence and, according to the news, the EU already keeps their lawyers busy in looking for a considerably shorter period. In short, they want to be shot of the UK, the sooner the better.

For what it's worth. Fat chance for another helping of UK cherry picking, since the EU has to make an example out of this. There are many countries having to deal with their very own nationalists. And the last thing they need is to be seens as being lenient on secession.
