first of all, it's not a conspiracy theory, no one is plotting anything here.

The idea is that scientists are trying to hide a screwup at CERN, the effects of which are seen by the commoners. Hence the "conspiracy theory"

maybe there is more but we can't see, or don't remember. maybe the glitches only cause small things to change. not sure yet.

Think of the butterfly effect, if a famous person is dead in one timeline and alive in another, that should trigger a lot more inconsistencies which should only increase with passage of time. The much simpler and plausible explanation is we have shitty memories and sometimes retain rumors as facts especially if the detail is not too important to us, like Elvis being alive, or Mr.Bean dying in a car crash...
