To be fair, that particular narrative is rife with inconsistency and inaccuracy. There is no coherent -whole- to which one can refer. It seems, rather, to be an amalgam of separate narratives that coalesced into one at some point before they were committed to the page. IMO, those loosely related narratives which played on successful tropes. A person who wants to work out what the story was about -or- maintain that it's a news report is going to have to drop something or other from it to make either work.
