Our backyard right now literally consists of a 30 foot cliff on top of which the forest starts.
Fortunately, HD sits basically on the Odenwald. I grew up on the opposite side of the Rhine valley, a few hundred meters from the largest continuous forest in the country and I feel a bit incomplete if I don't have one nearby. Germans and their forests are a special relationship anyways. Visiting the forest has a somewhat mystical cultural significance and tradition that's hard to describe. I think it harkens back to the German romanticism of the 19th century.
