Waldorff isn't astute enough to run off. He is no doubt seeking signs that he is a persevering saint of his tulip calvinist theology predestined to be saved, rather than a deluded sinner predestined to burn confusedly in hell. He will come back, posturing as always. He would sprout exactly the same "arguments" barely rephrased, in the hopes that next time his god would affirm him by beveling someone else's intelligence down to below even his level, thus giving him a perception of vindication and wisdom.
