Use you mind, will you? The American system has enough checks and balances built into the system to not make that possible by one person parking their ass at the Oval Office. Trump can do a lot of damage if he manages to win the elections, but not the same amount as Hitler, who, supported by a president allowing the introduction of the enabling act, gained absolute power.
Right now yes, but you might have missed the part of what I said is not about short term, but long term. And that is not a party issue. If enough politicians OF EITHER PARTY go "Hey, look at Trump, we can win using the same tactic" long term that is a very dangerous tone to set.
And to say "never say never", Germany was not a fascist state when Hitler decided to get involved in politics. I would not blindly assume a western pluralistic currently open society will always stay that way, human history has shown in both directions, open to closed and closed to open, things can and do change over time.
I agree we have a solid Constitution, but it cannot protect itself, humans have to do it.
