When Romney eventually released his tax returns, that's what ended up being the case with him, he only paid 13% tax by taking advantage of so many loopholes and stuff. People who are speculating that there is something truly awful in his tax returns are doing just that, speculating. What can really be in a tax return that's all that horrible and isn't public knowledge already?
Paying less than you should? Abusing loopholes and the government letting you get away with it? Shit, I could go on. I could even ask ... ahem ... "If you've got nothing to hide ...?" Hell, I pay 13% taxes, and I'm working-class, nowadays. What would I -- or more pertinently, another Texan who actually supports Trump -- think if it would come out that he's not paying that?
But hey, let him hide those records away, let others speculate. It only speaks to his political idiocy that he doesn't understand why voters would want to see his returns. Were I a Presidential candidate, I'd release those records as an offensive broadside to my opponent -- unless I knew I had Russian checks deposited, or loopholes out the backhole, or -- just maybe -- they showed that my patriotism didn't get as far as my wallet?
Holding back on his returns is a serious error, justified only if releasing them would do even more damage. Either Trump's rookie team doesn't know what even a schlub like myself knows, or they know a lot more and don't want me to know it.
