Granted, when I was 12, we wrote the year 1975, but gays were a joke for me. It took learning that my best friend actually was gay, some 15 years later, to get rid of these feelings.

Well alot of my female friends are lesbian/bi.
I also don't see anything wrong with this because of the society I grew up in (New York... Queenssss!!!!).
But my family really hates the LGBT community
Like Chris Rock says, whoever you hate will wind up in your family.
When I was a Christian, I felt kinda embarrassed about the way other Christians treated gays. Especially when I saw a classmate wearing a t shirt that says "Jesus hates me." Still, it took several years to overcome 25 years of indoctrination that taught me homosexuality is a sin. I knew that to truly except people, that condescending attitude had to go.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
