Truth, meaning facts certainly exists whether we can discover it in any particular case. Many horrible things have been done in the name of many religions not just christianity. That neither proves nor disproves the existence of god. The Bible has a couple anti homosexual verses. That neither proves nor disproves god. The big bang and evolution contradict the creation story in Genesis. That demonstrates the Bible is not inerrant but it does not disprove god. Lack of hisorical evidence suggests but does not prove that either Jesus did not exist or was very different from the Jesus depicted in the Gospel (which contradict themselves anyway). Changes to the Bible don't prove our disprove god either.
I'm taking a survey which I hope might generate some thoughtful discussion.
How would you finish this sentence: "Christianity can't be true because..."
Answers I've heard before include:
- Because there’s no such thing as truth.
- Because the church has done horrible things.
- Because the bible is anti-homosexuality.
- Because the big bang disproves God.
- Because evolution disproves the bible.
- Because there’s no historical evidence for Jesus.
- Because the bible has been changed over the years.d
Can you think of any others? Please comment. Thanks!
I don't believe in god because there is no compelling evidence for the existence such a being.
I believe Christians and Christianity exist. They are all around me. I don't believe their story in particular because their book is contradictory and not historical and very obviously a human rather than a divine tale. As such it isn't very good evidence. But supposing it were more historically and scientifically reliable, it still would not be sufficient evidence to belive in anything supernatural. I don't belive in alien abductions either. My reasons are similar, lots of story which contradicts everyday experience very little evidence.
Notice that the niceness of any proposed god or religion or alien abduction story is not evidence of that god's existence or the truth of that religion or abduction. Niceness is not an indication of truth. Horribleness is not an indicator of lack of existence. Pink fluffy unicorns don't exist. Ebola virus and Trump do.
Now, did anyone really give you any of the reasons in your OP for not believing in christianty? Or did you just hear them from other christians?
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god. If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.
