I'll post things besides questions from now on.

Religion has 2 purposes, neither of which requires evidence, accuracy or consistency.
1) It forms stupid persons in a population into groups which gives them resources to compete with other groups.
2) It gives the smarter ones among them a work-free gig as clerics who then can direct their group to trash other groups.

Actually, evidence is harmful to these purposes as it is generally available to everyone for examination and might interfere with group preconceptions (like, 'we're God's number one people.')
