I wouldn't say it how He did but I think i agree. I think you're right too, but I think you may not be taking into account that not everyone is attracted to the same things. I don't care about physical appearance much as long as you don't have disgusting teeth.
For a long time I considered myself in the same camp, I'm only going to have relationships (and sex) with intelligent people. I come from a family with a lot of hyper-intelligent people. However I had a conversation my brother when he said he thought that it was it's own kind of superficiality, in a similar way to people who will only have sex with a hot person. I mean, someone can be not that intelligent and still be a good, kind, generous and interesting person. I've met lots of not that bright people who are still more interesting and there is more to learn about them then there is with a lot of intelligent people. I think a lot of people who say they'll only have sex with intelligent people (I'm not saying this is about you necessarily) it's their way of humble-bragging about their own intelligence. So I stopped adding intelligence as some sort of prerequisite of having a relationship and I've been much happier because of it.
My reply to Brian is more personal mockery though. At the same time he can barely put together a legible sentence, his idea of intelligence involves people who agree with him on political and religious issues. He routinely disparages people as dumbasses when they disagree with him on even the slightest thing and flies into profanity fueled, incoherent rages. He doesn't at all want someone who actually intellectually challenges him, not if his online persona is close to what he is like in real life (it may not be.) What he really wants is someone who agrees with him about everything.
