Ahead of the visit he has proudly proclaimed that " the Queen symbolises the best of England ".
Please America, remind him that 40% at least of the UK population is anti-monarchy!
Would I be right in thinking that this 40% of the UK that you mention is mostly, politically speaking, left-leaning? Would I also be right in thinking that most of the pro-monarchy factions of the UK are more conservative?
If so, this is Obama's modes operandi: pander to the right, toss the left under the bus and then wonder why your base is so demoralized.
Welcome to our world.
I guess most of the 40% will be left-of-centre but many on the right favour a republic to our outdated monarchy.
I recognise your disappointment with Obama after he promised so much. The history of UK politics is littered by betrayal of Socialist ideals by the Labour Party ( supposedly the left-wing party of the main 3 parties ) when in power.
From a Socialist perspective, monarchy is clearly reactionary and is there to prop up the Capitalist system.
One day in the future, either by the ballot box or by revolution, hopefully the UK will become a Socialist Republic.
President Obama also needs to be reminded of the " impartiality " of the British Royal Family. Notable by their not getting an invite to the recent wedding were the last two Labour Prime Ministers ( Brown and Blair ). For the Obama visit, Buck House has stopped filming by tv channels of the current Labour leader, Ed Miliband, meeting the President. The same treatment is not expected for Tory Prime Minister Cameron.
So much for the royals being above politics!
